How To Find A Niche Market

When you want to dedicate weeks and even months of your time in making a website, you do not want to spend all that time on a niche that does not give any returns.

In internet marketing, finding the right niche, and by right we mean profitable, is half the battle won. Here we share tips on how to find a niche, and the characteristics you should look for when you search for one.

Characteristics Of A Good Niche Market

Any site that you build will require hours and even days of your efforts. Once you have started the site, you will need to fill it with content.

If the topic of the website is something that you have no interest in, you will find it hard to write anything for your site. From this we are led to the first principle of finding a niche:

Always prefer to make a site about something that you have a personal interest in. For example, if you like music, specifically playing guitar, you may think about making a site about one of the popular brands of guitars; or a site about how to play guitar.

Little Competition

Another characteristic of a good niche is low competition. If you want to make a site about guitar tabs, you will find that the internet is already filled with hundreds of sites about guitar tabs; all made by music and guitar enthusiasts. However, a site about “customized Gibson guitars” may likely have lower competition.

You can use the Google AdWords tool to check the completion for a particular word. Another hack is to Google search using “allintitle: customized Gibson guitars” to find out the kind of sites you are competing against.

CPC is another factor you have to consider when finding your golden niche. CPC stands for Cost Per Click, and is the dollar price that advertisers in the Google AdWords program have to pay for a single click on their advertisement.

The higher the CPC of a particular keyword, the more profitable a site on that keyword is going to be, per 1000 viewers.

How to find Ideas for your Niche

Many experienced marketers only use the Google.com search results when they research their niche. However, sometimes you may run out of ideas, in which case you should use sites like ehow.com to research keywords in a particular niche.

For example, if you want to research guitars, you should go to ehow.com and search for guitar; the results will show some of the related keywords for this particular niche. Indeed.com is another site which can be used to research interesting niches.

Once you have the right niche, and dedicate yourself to making it work, you are sure to see the results seen by successful internet marketers. Since you will need to work a lot on your site, choosing your hobby as your niche will make sure that you remain dedicated to your site.

In addition, make sure that you are not against a lot of competition, and that the CPC for your keywords is high. It is not always easy to find such a niche, but when you do, you will love the results.
